BreakPoint Extends Application Deadline, Reduces Program Fee for 2010 Centurions Program
Jan. 11: Deadline to Apply for Program That Equips Christians to Live Out Their Faith and Impact Their Communities
WASHINGTON, Dec. 15, 2009—Since Nov. 20, some 294,000 Christians have signed the Manhattan Declaration to convey their solidarity on the issues of the sanctity of human life, traditional marriage and religious liberty/freedom of conscience. Yet how many of them could articulately defend the biblical position on those issues and others including ministry to the poor, restorative justice for offenders and their victims, and how to read an underlying worldview in feature films?
BreakPoint, the Christian worldview ministry founded by Chuck Colson, has announced it will extend the application deadline to Jan. 11, 2010, and reduce the program fee to $1,500 for its Centurions Program, the distance-learning program that prepares Christians to live out their faith in the culture. The program provides instruction from some of the greatest minds in Christianity today and unites participants in a continuing network of cultural change.
"Christianity isn't simply a relationship with Jesus, it's a way of seeing all of reality," said Colson. "What we need desperately is a cadre of people who know how to think Christianly and defend it in every single area of life."
Colson founded the Centurions Program in 2004, 28 years after he founded Prison Fellowship. Since its inception, the program has equipped some 600 men and women across North America occupying positions of leadership in their communities to live out their faith in a way that turns heads and impacts every segment of culture-from the operating table and legislative halls to the artist's studio, the classroom and the boardroom.
Participants in the Centurions Program receive thought-provoking reading and film assignments, teleconferences and weekend residences for dialogue with Christians at the forefront of cultural engagement. The 2010 program will include instruction from Christian leaders including Joel Belz, Ken Boa, Chris Brooks, Luis Bush, Chuck Colson, Mark Earley, Bob Lynn, T.M. Moore, Chris Morris, Jennifer Roback Morse, Pat Nolan, Cornelius Plantinga, Burt Rosen, John Stonestreet, Glenn Sunshine, Joni Eareckson Tada and Thurman Williams.
Commissioned Centurions become advocates in their communities, participating in activities such as providing lawmakers with an informed, biblical point of view; ministering to disadvantaged groups; and engaging with medical professionals on ethical challenges.
The Centurions Program receives hundreds of applications each year but can accept only a limited number for the new class that begins in January. To complete an online application, visit www.breakpoint.org/centurions.
